I recently had the opportunity to take military veterans out sailing as part of the Wounded American Veterans Experience (W.A.V.E ), co-hosted by Pensacola Yacht Club and Navy Yacht Club, to honor our nation's disabled and combat wounded veterans.
19 boats headed out on Pensacola Bay with 32 veterans, their families, and 3 service dogs on board. It was truly heartwarming to see this show of support from our community for the people who have selflessly served our country. We had so many volunteers and boats that we were able to also include a group of very helpful Navy and USMC officers who were there to assist the veterans on and off the boats.
There were lots of smiles on people's faces when they gathered for lunch after sailing. In the words of one of the veterans attending the event, "Thank you for everything you do. A lot of us would never get out of the house if it weren't for folks like y'all. And that's the honest truth. " And in reply, we say...."Thank you for all you've done."
