Lagoon-42.jpg

A 2 day class where you will learn to skipper a 47' cruising catamaran  in moderate winds and sea conditions.  $2,600 for two people.

               ⚓ SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE GAINED

⛵ Catamaran-Specific Boat Handling

  • Differences between monohull and catamaran sailing.

  • Maneuvering with twin engines (pivot turns, docking, backing).

  • Turning radius, drift characteristics, and windage of wide-beam boats.

  • Tacking and jibing with catamarans (avoiding over-steering or stalling).

  • Heaving-to and reefing techniques suited to multihulls.

🧭 Advanced Navigation & Coastal Cruising

  • Plotting and executing a course using charts, GPS, and radar.

  • Awareness of catamaran-specific navigational constraints, such as:

    • Bridge clearance

    • Wide beam for marina access

    • Shallow draft implications

  • Use of navigational aids and understanding tides and currents.

⚠️ Emergency & Safety Procedures

  • Man overboard recovery with wide-beam catamarans.

  • Managing emergencies with multiple engines and hulls.

  • Fire, flooding, and grounding prevention and response.

  • Rigging inspection and damage control for multihulls.

  • Understanding capsizing risks and how to avoid them (very rare but addressed).

⚙️ Multihull Systems & Operation

  • Operating and troubleshooting twin diesel engines.

  • Understanding electrical systems, often split between hulls.

  • Managing fuel and water systems spread across both hulls.

  • Galley and head systems designed for catamarans.

Anchoring and Mooring Techniques

  • Catamaran anchoring tactics (broader swing radius, multiple anchor options).

  • Using bridle systems for anchor rode.

  • Docking in tight spaces with a wide beam.

  • Picking up a mooring with wind and current factors.

🌴 Liveaboard & Charter Readiness

  • Planning a bareboat charter on a catamaran.

  • Pre-departure inspection checklist (systems, sails, safety).

  • Crew roles and watchstanding with multihulls.

  • Galley planning, provisioning, and storage considerations for long stays.
