Intermediate Sailing

A 2 day class, 5-6 hours each day, where you will refine and improve upon what you learned in the Beginning Sailing class as well as learn new skills such as docking the boat, navigation, sail selection, boat systems, and how to handle emergencies. $1,400 for 2 people

Operating a 38' sailboat under sail and power.

🧭 Navigation & Piloting

Reading nautical charts in detail (symbols, depths, buoys).

Using a compass and determining your course and bearing.

Plotting positions and determining distances/speeds.

Dead reckoning and basic coastal piloting.

Intro to electronic navigation tools (GPS, chart plotters, depth sounders).
📜 Rules of the Road

Deeper understanding of COLREGS (Navigation Rules).

Sound signals, navigation lights, and day shapes for different vessels.

Right-of-way situations in various conditions (sail vs. power, overtaking, etc.).
🪢Docking & Anchoring

Docking techniques using spring lines and fenders.

Approaching and securing to a mooring ball.

Setting, checking, and retrieving an anchor safely.

Understanding different anchor types and when to use them.
🧯 Safety

Engine troubleshooting (basic diesel/gas engine knowledge).

Proper use of VHF radio (including emergency channels/protocols).

Fire prevention, flooding response, first aid overview.

More detailed look at sail plan configurations (e.g., sloop vs. cutter).
